La Casa El Torico

La Casa El Torico es un edificio construido a principios del siglo XX, encargado por una conocida familia de comerciantes de la provincia al arquitecto Pablo Monguió. Se la conoce con este nombre por el popular comercio que albergó en su planta baja y por orientar su fachada principal a dicha plaza. La primera planta tiene una distribución comercial, porticada al igual que el resto de casas de la plaza y las otras tres plantas de piso, están rematadas por una galería corrida protegida por un alero de madera.

La fachada principal, simétrica, presenta diferentes tratamientos decorativos en sus distintos niveles, unificados todos ellos por el color violeta de los paramentos y los detalles ornamentales en color blanco. De esta forma, la primera planta, de mayor altura libre, está recorrida por un balcón continuo protegido por antepechos de forja entre delgadas columnas con capiteles de motivos florales que sirven de apoyo para el voladizo del piso superior, de menor altura y con tres huecos resueltos con ondulados dinteles. 

La tercera planta tiene dos ventanas enrasadas que flanquean un tercer balconcillo en el centro, adintelado. Sobre éste hay una cartela con el año de construcción entre dos columnillas. Una torre cilíndrica de ladrillo rematada por un cupulín cerámico y protegida por un amplio vuelo del forjado, rompe la simetría en la esquina con la calle lateral.

El edificio que con el paso del tiempo ha perdido parte de la riqueza decorativa de su fachada principal, integra diversas artes en su construcción: forja, cantería, cerámica, vidriería... A finales del siglo XX sufrió una drástica reforma que vació su interior para adaptarlo a su nuevo uso de oficina bancaria. Las fachadas lateral y trasera, unificadas con la principal al emplear el mismo color en su revestimiento, son de mucha menor complejidad, limitándose a una serie de balcones y ventanas similares al resto de las construcciones de la zona, incorporando cornisas que marcan la línea de los forjados.

La Casa El Torico fue declarada Bien de Interés Cultural con categoría de Monumento en el año 2006.

The El Torico House is a building built at the beginning of the 20th century, commissioned by a known family of merchants of the province to the architect Pablo Monguió. It is known by the popular trade that housed on the ground floor and by orienting its main façade to the square. The first floor has a business distribution, arcaded like the rest of the square houses and the other three floor plants, are finished off by a continuous gallery protected by a wooden eaves.

The main façade, symmetrical, presents different decorative treatments at different levels, all unified by the violet color of the walls and ornamental details in white. Thus, the first floor, with greater headroom, is covered by a continuos balcony protected by guardrails of forging between slender columns with capitals of floral motifs that serve as support for the cantilever of the upper floor, with lower height and three holes resolved with wavy lintels.

The third floor has two flush windows flanking a third linteled balcony in the centre. On this, there is a console with the year of construction between two columns. A cylindrical brick tower topped by a ceramic little dome and protected by a wide projection of the slab, breaks the symmetry in the corner of the side street.

The building, with the passage of time, that has lost some of the decorative richness of its main façade, integrates diverse arts in its construction: forging, stone, ceramic, glassware... At the end of the 20th century it suffered a drastic refurbishment that emptied the inside to adapt it to its new use of banking office. The side and rear façades, unified with the main one to use the same colour on its facing, are much less complex, limited to a series of balconies and windows similar to the rest of the buildings in the area, incorporating cornices that mark the line of the floor slabs.

The El Torico House was declared Asset of Cultural Interest with Monument category in 2006.
