La Torre Nabemba

La Torre Nabemba es un rascacielos de oficinas situado en Brazzaville, en la República del Congo. Con 106 metros y 30 plantas es el edificio más alto del país. La torre fue diseñada por Jean Marie Legrand y fue construida entre 1983 y 1986. 

La forma de la torre es esbelta, con su parte central curva formando un cilindro cóncavo. Se alza sobre un pedestal rectangular que forma el núcleo principal de la torre. La fachada se compone de líneas verticales de vidrio y hormigón ligero, que refuerza su estrecha forma. 

La planta del edificio hace tres círculos concéntricos: en el del medio están los ascensores y las instalaciones técnicas, después hay unos pasillos circulares y, por último, estos dos anillos están rodeados por un anillo externo de oficinas, que se encuentran divididas en segmentos por paredes móviles. 

Las ventanas están selladas, pero el sistema de aire acondicionado bombea aire frío a través de un sistema de enfriamiento y regula la temperatura en el edificio. Tres generadores suministran el edificio durante los constantes cortes de energía en la ciudad.

Cada año, sólo el mantenimiento de la torre cuesta el equivalente a 3 millones de libras, un coste significativo para un país muy pobre.

The Nabemba Tower is an office skyscraper in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. At 106 meters and 30 floors it is the tallest building in the country. The tower was designed by Jean Marie Legrand and was built between 1983 and 1986.

The shape of the Nabemba Tower is slender, the sides towards the middle and bent inwards so it makes a concave cylinder. The tower is based on a rectangular pedestal that forms the main core of the shape. The façade consists of vertical lines with glass and light concrete, which reinforces its narrow shape. 

The floor plan makes three concentric circles: in the middle there are elevators and technical facilities, then there are circular corridors, and finally these two rings are surrounded by an outer ring of offices, which are divided into segments by movable walls.

The windows are sealed, but an air-conditioning system pumps cold air through a cooling system and regulates the temperature in the building. Three generators supply the building during the constant power outages in the city.

Each year, the maintenance alone of the tower costs the equivalent of £3, 000, 000, a significant cost for what is still a very poor country.
