El Torreón de los Guzmanes (Ávila)

Este torreón forma parte de un importante palacio, construido en 1513 y que perteneció al linaje de los Mújica. El Palacio es actualmente sede de la Diputación Provincial y conserva el artesonado mudéjar del patio.

Tiene una fachada de mampostería de granito en dos plantas, sin decoración. En una de sus esquinas se levanta un importante torreón, de planta cuadrada y aspecto claramente defensivo: está coronado por almenas y atalayas, con aspilleras en las cuatro esquinas y un matacán que protege la entrada. La portada, con grandes dovelas, está enmarcada en un alfiz, que también recoge los escudos familiares. 

Al interior se accede a través de un zaguán y una escalinata gótica que asciende al nivel de un patio de doce arcos sobre columnas. El patio central aporticado es de doble galería, con columnas toscanas dóricas y arcos adintelados. 

Fue declarada Bien de Interés Cultural con la categoría de monumento el 9 de febrero de 1983.

This tower is part of an important Palace, built in 1513 and it belonged to the lineage of the Mujica. The Palace is currently the Diputación Provincial headquarters and retains the mudejar coffered ceiling in the courtyard.

It has a façade of granite masonry in two floors, without decoration. In a corner stands an important Tower of square ground plan and with clearly defensive aspect: is surmounted by battlements and watchtowers, with loopholes in the four corners and a machicolation, which protects the entrance. The front door, with large segments, is framed in an alfiz, also collecting the family shields.

The interior is accesed through a hallway and a Gothic stairway that rises to the level of a courtyard of twelve arches on columns. The archways central courtyard is double gallery, with Tuscan Doric columns and lintel arches.

It was declared Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of monument on February 9, 1983.
